Plaquemines Parish School System
South Plaquemines High School
Construction of a new state-of-the-art South Plaquemines High School for the
students of the 2012-2013 school year. "This is a milestone for the
Plaquemines Parish School System," Rouselle told a crowd gathered Sept. 13
for a ground-breaking event. "There is so much going on, and we've done this
in two years."
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing $40.7 million to build
the new South Plaquemines High School. It will consolidate Buras and Port
Sulpher High schools, the latter of which is being used as a temporary
campus.
The project is being build at the site for the former Buras Middle School.
Once finished, students from Boothville-Venice will also attend SPHS.
The 150,000 square foot facility will include 30 classrooms, a cafeteria,
media center, gymnasium and auditorium. The school will be elevated almost
20 feet to protect it against potential flooding.
